Ben Caplan – In the Time of the Great Remembering
12” Vinyl
Release Date: October 20, 2011
Ben Caplan’s debut studio album In the Time of the Great Remembering introduces his signature blend of folk, blues, and Eastern European influences. Originally released in 2011, the record features Caplan’s gravelly, expressive vocals backed by The Casual Smokers.
The instrumentation is rich and varied, with guitar, banjo, piano, clarinet, saxophone, flute, violin, and upright bass creating a layered, dynamic backdrop. Lyrically, the songs explore love, longing, and uncertainty with a mix of sincerity and irony, striking a balance between intimacy and exuberance.
From the haunting “Drift Apart” to the rollicking energy of “Down to the River,” the album moves fluidly between introspective ballads and bold, theatrical arrangements. Lyrically sharp and musically rich, it's a compelling first statement from a singular artist.
